Opelousas’s weekly outdoor free concert is returning to downtown. Music and Market is an event that features live music and local food every Friday evening. This next session is set to start on October 4 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

The city of Opelousas starting doing this concert series about 13 years ago. Opelousas has a rich culture. Many people in Opelousas still speak French as a first language. Boudin or tasso is easy to find. It’s not uncommon to see someone riding a horse on the side of the road. And plus some of the best Zydeco, Creole and Cajun bands come out of St. Landry Parish. So the city decided to share that culture other people. Every week a band will play a free show and local farmers and vendors will be set up selling their goods. Each week a vegetable will be highlighted.

On October 4th, Lil Pookie and the Zydeco Sensations will take the stage at the Farmer’s Market Pavilion. The featured vegetable will be kale.

Fall Music & Market 2019 lineup features:

October 11 – The Matt James Band (Variety) – Herbs & Spices

October 18 – Patrick Henry & The Liberation Band (Southern R&B) – Honey

October 25 –  Horace Trahan & The Ossun Express (Cajun & Zydeco) – Pumpkin
