We’ve all seen that parent at a school sporting event. You know the parent that yells at the referee during the game.

Some of these episodes have even gone to the next level where the parent has attacked a referee during the game or after in the parking lot which has resulted in injuries to some officials.

Beware, parents, according to WWL-TV, Louisiana lawmakers will create a bill where new penalties will be enforced on parents who scuffle or harass officials at children’s sporting events.

The new crime of harassment at a school or recreation athletic official could be enforced if the official fears of bodily harm while officiating the sporting event. The guilty party could face up to 90 days in jail and will be assigned mandatory counseling and community work.

You’ve been to school events where it seems a parent for whatever reason does not agree with the referee’s call and the parent seems to go berserk and for a moment, they just lose their mind. And you know the child of the parent is more embarrassed because of actions of mom or dad. The bill even goes as far as to create a new crime for those parents who refuse to leave or for remaining onsite at the event after being told to leave.

The House passed the bill Monday sending it to the governor to sign.
