Feral hogs are becoming to be a major problem in Louisiana. They are multiplying at an alarming rate and beginning to venture outside of the woods. Many motorists are seeing hogs in large groups on side of the highway and interstate. The hogs are running into the road, causing traffic delays and in some cases vehicle crashes. This could eventually run up insurance rates. In order, to control the problem of the feral hog, the state of Louisiana will allow nighttime hunting.

Starting on August 1, a new law will permit hunters to hunt feral hogs at night on private property. State officials are hoping this measure will help reduce the wild hog population.

Anyone interested in hunting hogs at night will be required to possess a basic hunting license. Before heading into the night to track down the wild pigs, the hunter will need to get permission from the landowner and also be sure to notify the local sheriff office.

This new regulation is also being extended to the hunting of armadillos, nutria rats, beavers, and coyotes. There have been some reports of coyotes attacking people jogging and running.
