If you were a kid listening to the radio in the ’80s and early 90’s I’m sure you heard one of the smoothest voices in Acadiana on Foxy 1063. It was a jammin station offering Lafayette it’s first FM radio station playing Urban music.
That smooth voice was Derek Monett and he is returning to Acadiana on Z1059 starting this week! Derek has accepted the Brand Managers position along with the wake-up duties.
Derek is a Louisiana native and has spent many enjoyable years in Acadiana attending UL and you may have seen him at one of the clubs as he owned and operated his music show, Derek Monett and the Knights of the Round Table.
It wasn’t long before bigger and better jobs came calling for Monett’s talent. Derek’s career has to take him to stops in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Atlanta, Alexandria and most recently he spent the last 8 years in West Palm Beach, FL at Glades Media. He departed just in time before Hurricane Dorian started to shake the beach.
Derek said upon his return to Acadiana-
It’s nice to be back home to the aroma of strong coffee in the morning and boiled crawfish in the evening. I’m exctied to be reunited with my good friend Stephanie Smallwood. We have kept in touch through out the years and now we are back together at the same station. I’ll be working with many familar faces and names from Foxy 1063 which made this an easy decision
Listen for Derek Monett starting this week on Z1059. Welcome back home!
