The first thing that comes to mind when I think of “The Nutcracker” is the Dance Of the Sugar Plum Fairy. I immediately get warm and fuzzy feelings about Christmas and the Holidays. Now there is a uniquely Creole version of this holiday ballet to celebrate the season.
This holiday season make some memories with your family and enjoy the story of the Creole Nutcracker. The Louisiana twist on this ballet performance follows a young girl named Clarice on a magical journey. It takes her through some of the historical parts of Louisiana. This Creole version of the classic tale is a soulful mix of dance styles and theatrics. You are sure to be entertained.
The Creole Nutcracker was created by two Lafayette natives, Leigha Porter M.Ed and Jazmyn Jones. It features 70 local dancers and tells the same basic story as the traditional ballet with Louisiana flava and it features different styles of dance and music. Local entertainers, Nebu Neezy and Shawn “Uncle Luck” Bernard are also part of the cast.
The Original Nutcracker” is the story of a girl named Clara who gets a wooden nutcracker as a Christmas gift from the mysterious Dr. Drosselmeyer. Later that night, she experiences the nutcracker’s battle with an army of mice and his transformation into a handsome prince. They take a magical journey together.
