The Greater Southwest Louisiana Black Chamber of Commerce remembers the immense contributions of one of its founders. Bishop Roy Winbush passed away December 19, 2021 and will be laid to rest this week in Lafayette, LA.

Winbush, along with the late JeNelle Chargois and Don Cravins Sr., founded the Greater Southwest Louisiana Black Chamber in 2003 as a way to empower and educate black business owners looking to start or expand businesses throughout the region.

Bishop Roy Winbush was the pastor of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ in Lafayette. He was a successful business owner, decorated Army veteran esteemed scholar, civic leader, and devoted husband and father.
Chamber co-founder Don Cravins Sr. remembers, “ Bishop Roy Winbush’s loss leaves behind a great void. He was a man of great character and integrity who will be remembered most for the humility he displayed while serving others. He could always be found fighting on the side of
righteousness. It was an honor to have stood with him, and even more of an honor to have called him a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Mae, his children and all the family and friends he leaves behind.”

The Greater Southwest Louisiana Black Chamber of Commerce is a 501c3 non-profit organization based out of Lafayette, LA. It was designed to advance and protect the general welfare and prosperity of African American-owned businesses in its 17-parish area of service.
