This free event is a celebration of Louisiana’s Creole heritage, with a special focus on the French language that remains integral to the Creole identity.
Event Highlights
• Live Boucherie (6 AM Start): The day begins early with a traditional hog butchering and cooking event, featuring French demonstrations on preparing staple Creole foods like cracklin and boudin. The food from the Boucherie will be served for free to attendees. Although the Boucherie starts at 6 AM, the main Creole Culture Day activities kick off at 10 AM.
• Creole French Activities: The day will include various activities conducted in Creole French, such as the popular Creole French Bingo. These activities aim to entertain while preserving and promoting the French language within the Creole community.
• Genealogy Section: Genealogists will be on-site to help attendees trace their Creole ancestry, offering a personal connection to their heritage.
• Culinary Delights: A selection of central Louisiana cuisine and desserts will be available from hand-selected food trucks and a diverse group of vendors, showcasing the rich culinary traditions of the region.
• Music and Performances: The event will feature a diverse lineup of music, including performances by DJ Dr. Boogie Live, Zydeco Roux, and David Sylvester. These acts will highlight the contributions of French-speaking Creole communities to Louisiana’s musical heritage.
