The record-high temperatures that Acadiana is experiencing are not only uncomfortable, but dangerous. Triple-digit heat poses a threat of severe dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. These conditions can be life-threatening, and many people have no place to escape the heat.

Lafayette Consolidated Government has opened a public cooling center for folks to escape the heat. It’s at the Domingue Recreation Center, 901 Mudd Avenue. The center opened on Wednesday, August 23rd.

Hours are noon to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, the hottest part of the day. These hours will remain in effect until further notice. The center can be reached via the brown route of the Lafayette Transit System.
