Most Dental Checkups Now Allowed

There was a story last week about a guy who had an achy tooth and because of the current COVID-19 crisis, he could not find a dentist to help him. The pain was too great so with the help of Youtube and a pair of pliers, the man pulled the tooth out all by himself. He said the pain stopped instantly after the tooth’s removal. Although he did say it was an excruciating task to pull out his own tooth.

Well luckily, if you have a toothache anytime soon, you don’t have to be that guy.

Governor Edwards announced that dental and time-sensitive medical procedures will be allowed effective Monday, April 27.

According to the Louisiana Dental Association Former President, Dr. Kristi Soileau, most dental work will be permitted under the revised stay-at-home order. The only dental work not allowed is cosmetic dental work. This includes veneers, bonding, and any type of procedure that is intended to improve one’s appearance.

If you already have braces, then you can continue care and schedule checkups. But new braces or aligners will not be allowed at this time. Regular dental exams are also permitted with this order.

Keep in mind, that dental offices will be following social distancing guidelines. You can expect to see very few patients in the waiting room and some patients may even be asked to wait in their vehicles. It is advised to wear a mask when in any public facility.
