
The Port Barre Red Devils edged out the Beau Chene Gators 34-27 to earn a Week 2 victory.
Beau Chene struck first with a two-yard touchdown run by Derrick Charles in the first quarter. Port Barre tied it up with a two-yard touchdown run by Bailey Rideau and then took the lead with a 31-yard touchdown by Rideau with 1:32 left in the first.
The Gators tied the game early in the second with a 28-yard touchdown run by Tyrese Henry. Right before halftime, Port Barre scored on a two-yard touchdown run by Juwan Horns but the extra point was blocked.
At the break, Port Barre led 20-14.
The Red Devils extended their lead in the third quarter as Tylus Metrejean threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Kegan Ledoux and then added a 19-yard touchdown run by Metrejean, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the game.
Beau Chene climbed back in the game in the fourth as Christian Wheeler had a 17-yard touchdown run but the extra point was no good. The Gators defense then added a 85-yard fumble for a touchdown and the extra point was good to make it 34-27.
Port Barre was able to run out the clock to earn the victory.
This week’s game, with Craig Wall and Chad Jones on the call, will be the Westminster Christian Academy of Opelousas at WCA of Lafayette. Pregame begins at 6:45 and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
