Rest in Peace, Tina Turner. It’s the end of an era. The beloved Queen of Rock ‘n’ Soul, Tina Turner has died. She was 83.
On Wednesday (May 24), a spokesperson for Turner said the music legend died following a long illness at her home in Switzerland. Tina Turner was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and had a kidney transplant in 2017. The exact cause of her death has not been released.
Her real name was Annie Mae Bullock. She was born in Nutbush, Tennessee on November 23, 1939. Her career began in 1957 with her ex-husband, Ike Turner. Together they produced the classic songs, “Proud Mary” and “Nutbush City Limits”. They went their separate ways in 1976.
In 1984 Tina Turner released the Private Dancer album and experienced a legendary comeback. She made history as the oldest female solo artist to top the Billboard Top 100 chart with “What’s Love Got To Do With It”. That song also went on to win a Grammy for record of the year.
Tina Turner retired in 2009 at the end of her 50th Anniversary Tour. The music lives on, but there will never be another Tina Turner, she was the blueprint for many of the female music stars of today. She was simply the best. Rest in power Queen.
