It’s back to school time. On Thursday August 11, 2016, students in the Lafayette Parish School System will be returning to class.
The Lafayette Police Department are beginning a campaign each year called, “Give the Kids a Brake”. During the first two weeks of school Lafayette Police Officers will be enforcing speed limits in all school zones. It is important as citizens that we adhere to those speed limits. Each school zone is clearly marked with signs and in most cases flashing lights.
Lafayette Police Officers will also be enforcing those school zones that marked as “Hands Free”, which prohibits drivers from talking, texting, or using their device for social networking. Drivers who regularly travel to work on streets that border schools should allow extra travel time for the increase in traffic in the mornings and afternoon. They should also avoid being distracted within the vehicle due to student pedestrian traffic.
