The SMILE Community Action Agency has been serving the Parishes of Lafayette, Iberia and St. Martin for nearly 51 years. SMILE serves as a clearinghouse for community needs. SMILE’s focus is on health, education economic stability, and the betterment of all disadvantaged individuals. SMILE gives hope to children and families and is dedicated to helping people to help themselves and each other.
A couple of members of the SMILE Community Action Agency, Porcha Evans, Case Manager, and Hilda Wiltz, Resource Program Developer, dropped by the Z1059 studios recently to give us an update on some of the latest programs being offered. Ms. Evans told us about the LOW-INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHEAP). This program provides direct payments to home energy suppliers on behalf of eligible households, particularly the elderly and disabled.
Hilda Wiltz shared the upcoming gala planned by SMILE, on April 3rd, at the Cajundome Convention Center. The theme for this year’s soiree and banquet: “Embracing the New Culture”.
