Bell’s Sporting Goods To Close After 73 Years In Acadiana

We’ve all heard and seen many businesses shut their doors in 2019. This year will be remembered as the year when many businesses had enough and decided it is best to close for good.

Of all of the store’s closings this year, this one is going to hit us hard. The Iconic Bell’s Sporting Goods has had enough and will close their doors in December.

According to the Advocate, the business continued to be profitable but the changing habits of the buying public with shopping on-line and such meant fewer bodies coming through the doors.

Many generations have shopped at Bell’s since they opened in 1946. With the closing of the store, many schools and coaches will have to go out of the market for uniforms and game apparel.

I’m sure at one time or another you shopped at Bell’s Sporting Goods. This is one of those feel-good sporting good stores. Early on as I was a child I remember going with my dad to shop for hunting and fishing supplies and gear. The store has changed its focus in the years and Lafayette started to get more big box stores.

This will be like the passing of a good friend. Thanks for the memoried Bell’s Sporting Goods.
