If you listen very carefully, I bet you can hear the clanking of gumbo pots from all over Acadiana since this cooler weather has settled in the region.
And if you don’t have the time to make a gumbo, you need to join the REALTORS Association of Acadiana’s 29th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off, at Parc International in Downtown Lafayette Wednesday (10/23) starting at 5 pm.
This event is well attended and if I can share a little suggestion, arrive early. This is one of those Acadiana events that is well attended. And why not? For one cover charge you get to sample as much gumbo as your little tummy can hold.
One of the favorite things I love to do is speak to the gumbo chef. I love cooking in the kitchen and I love making Cajun and Creole dishes. You would think everyone has pretty much the same staples when it comes to making a gumbo. Yet, you have some chefs who bake their roux for health and dietary reasons. And the taste test was nothing less than delicious. There was no hint of this gumbo being a healthy version of a gumbo. It was just good!
I am honored to be a judge for the annual event and to represent 1063 Radio Lafayette. Being a Cajun who enjoys cooking and being in the kitchen, I will enjoy sampling and judging the various gumbos and speaking to the chefs, maybe they will share some of their secrets.
The event will also benefit three local charities: Habitat for Humanity, Lane’s Legacy, and Maddie’s Footprints.
Advance tickets on sale at Eventbrite, where you can save $2 off each ticket. Tickets available on site the day of the event for $10 per person.
