I have loved Chaka Khan forever, so when I heard she the grammy award winning diva was going to be at Cypress Bayou Casino, I did not waste any time BUYING my tickets. Now us radio people love us some free tickets, but I knew that was not going to happen for Chaka, so I did what I need to do and logged on to ticketmaster.com. I would not could not miss my chance to see this legendary diva performing in my own backyard (almost) on Saturday, August 20, 2016.
Chaka made headlines recently when she voluntarily entered a rehab program for her addiction to prescription pain medications. She was motivated by the death of her longtime friend Prince, who died due to a similar addiction. Chaka who is now 63, postponed some of her concert dates to focus on her health, but not her Saturday concert at Cypress Bayou Casino. This show is among some of be her first performances since leaving rehab.
I can’t really pinpoint when I first fell in love with Chaka Khan but she has been part of the soundtrack of my life for as long as I remember. My favorite songs: Do You Love What You Feel, Everlasting Love and Sweet Thing!
I am so excited this will be my first Chaka Khan Concert! I know she will be singing all my favorites. I will be dancing and singing along.
“Do You Love What You Feel”
From the 1979 album, Masterjam, produced by Quincy Jones. “Do You Love What You Feel” was a No. 1 hit. Chaka sang all lead and background vocals on the album but also provided the vocal arrangements.
“Everlasting Love”
Another one of Rufus and Chaka’s romantic, songs from the group’s 1977 Ask Rufus album.
“Sweet Thing”
From the 1975 album Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan album, the song was a number one hit and it is still a staple in Chaka’s live performances. (and I will be singing along)
