Internet gangsters, by my definition, are people who go online and feel free to leave disrespectful and provocative comments on publicly viewed items and forums, but don’t have the courage to say or do these things in person.
I find it laughable when someone posts something like a picture on Facebook and it seems that the world collectively comments on it and the comments seem to go from one focus to something way left field. Like this one time I saw a Pampers ad of this super cute baby. But i noticed it had over 30,000 comments. I’m thinking, what could 30,000 people or less have to say about this picture? So out of curiosity I clicked on it and you wouldn’t believe how many people actually had something ugly to say about this cute little baby!
The baby was wearing a fall outfit and sitting barefoot on a nice and large patio. Oh they talked about how nasty it is to have a baby on the floor and how the baby is probably dirty, the parents are dirty and ignorant, calling the parents terrible names and making racist, irrelevant comments, and I’m like, “people, its just a picture of a baby on a patio… are you serious?!”
I just feel really sorry for people who are like that. Always have to find the negative in everything. And are too afraid to be real in person. I really feel sorry for people like this.
But my teaching moment from this is, don’t be one of those people who reads the negative and ignorant comments people leave on pictures or in forums, and respond to them.
1. They want you to do that
2. some people do it because they find entertainment in debating.
3. Some people feel accomplished if they can take a point that they know is wrong and argue it and convince others that its right.
4. Some people are entertained by knowing they are good at getting under people’s skin.
5. You’re wasting your good energy on arguing with an ignorant person you cant see or reach out and touch.
I used to be this way…
Why bother? Because now you’re upset and you’re still debating over it in your head well after the conversation is over and by then this person has already forgotten about the conversation they had with you. They’re probably pleasantly going about their business because they know they’ll never bump into you in the real world.
