Psalm 98:4 (KJV) Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
I recently went to Sunday Mass at Our Lady Queen Of Peace Church in Lafayette. One of the announcements was concerning, membership in the adult choir, and the formation of a youth choir. That got me thinking about all the great singers who got their first taste of performing for an audience in their church choir. Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Charlie Wilson, Brandy, Usher, Anthony Hamilton, Whitney Houston and many more all started singing in the church.
The connection between gospel and R&B music has always been there. Could the next generation of superstars be sitting in the pews on Sunday instead of making a joyful noise unto the Lord with the choir. Many young and mature singers know they have a gift but don’t know where to start. The answer is;join the church choir. Don’t be scared. The church choir is open to all voices. You never know how God will use your voice and what blessings may follow.
The adult choir at Our Lady Queen Of Peace is welcoming new members, if you would like to join, just show up for practice on Tuesdays at 6:30 in the church.
Francis Leblanc is working to form a youth choir. They will sing periodically at the 11 am mass. If you are a member of the Queen of Peace parish, and your child is between the ages of 10-18 call the church office for more information at 337-233-1591.
