So today’s rant is about Human decency:
One weekend I was out with my kids. I have an 8-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl. Well I do my best to each my son about chivalry, respect for others and manners among other fine qualities every man should be equipped with. But what really bothers me is the fact that my son, who is so sweet, will hold doors open for anyone. What got me enraged was the fact that people could walk right by him and not bother to say thank you, hello, or anything to acknowledge his presence. I took so much for me not to go completely off. So I just tell my son, to keep being the good and courteous person he is and to not allow the ignorance and rudeness of others to affect his good-natured character.
I get the same way when my baby-girl is selling girl scout cookies and people walk right by her, they wont acknowledge her or even say no thank you, nada!
And that really takes a lot for me not to completely go HAM on these people. But instead, I just very obnoxiously say “thank you so much anyways, I hope you have blessed rest of the day”; then look to the next potential customers to come by.
I understand, you may not have the money, or don’t want to tell them no and have to deal with them begging you. But A, not all children do that, and B, its hurts so much more if you ignore them.
So just simply say No thank you and keep it movin’!
I just get irate about it because I’m doing my best to raise my son to be a gentleman and its very counterproductive when he sees a grown man not be a gentleman or a woman ignore a gentleman’s polite gestures. Man! As adults, we simply need to do better!
