Ladies and gentlemen of SWLA, um… its hot outside! There have been some days when I’ve stepped outside my apartment and the sun was beating down so hard, I thought someone had wrapped a thermal blanket around me and took a pillow to my face! Yea! It was that intense! Even when it rains, the sun dares to be relentless!
Sometimes I don’t even want to go to the pool unless I stay submerged under water the whole time. We definitely have to take much caution when it comes to our small children and elderly. So I just thought of a few things I’d like you all to think about while you try to enjoy these 105 days of summer fun with Z105.9!
- Get them babies, pets and MawMaw out them hot ass cars!
You’ve seen the news, the videos from the internet, heard the talk on the radio. People are taking chances and leaving children and pets in the car. Now I myself have not heard anything about the elderly but I know it still happens. And people’s excuses are always,
“Oh, I didn’t think I was going to be in there that long!”
Yea and you didn’t know the customer ahead of you had 100 coupons for the cashier to go through, plus WIC with 5 of the items not on the approved list so now someone has to go find the right one and the perfect dress on sale with no price or bar-code on it, Nowhere! Oh yea, PRICE CHECK, please, Can I Get A Price Check Please!!!!
It’s called piss-poor-planning! Oh! And jail time!!!
- Drink Waterrrrrr! Beat the heat, Louisiana!!!
This phrase should be slightly familiar to my military personnel, specifically my army soldiers. In basic training the drill sergeants taught us this saying. They would yell to us, “DRINK WATER” and we would call back, “BEAT THE HEAT DRILL SGT, BEAT THE HEAT” then take one knee and chug a lug at our water canteens. Oh don’t get me started on Hydration formations, yikes! But the point is, they took care of us soldiers by keeping us hydrated, not allowing us to drink any sodas or sugary drinks and what not; water, water, water! Any soldier will tell you, if today is the only day you’ve been drinking water because it’s hot, you’ve done nothing to save yourself from becoming a heat casualty. You need to be drinking lots of water daily, at least two weeks prior, if you know you will be making a day of fun in the sun and want to avoid dehydration, heat strokes, heat cramps and so on. You find yourself outside playing basketball, mowing the grass, walking your dog, playing catch or riding bikes with your kids, make it a habit to drink lots of water, daily to keep your body use to it. And avoid too much exposure to the heat if you can. I don’t care where you’re from, no one is immune to the dangers of over exposure to the sun.
- Playground safety for the babies
I’m 30 years old and I know I remember burning my little thighs up on the playground slide at the park, at school during recess, it didn’t matter! Plastic and metal! What!? And sometimes you got stuck on the slides, slide so hot it sticks to you like leather car seats! You sittin up there playin red light, green light on the slide.
Parents, bring some small blankets, a t-shirt, something, with you to the park on those super-hot days! Burnin’ up those babies’ booties, what’s wrong with you!? Here’s a tip, if you see the park is empty, take that as a sign! If you see the metal turning a slight red tint, walk away, it’s not okay! Lastly, if you see the little gas fumes rising off the ground and maybe even the slides itself from a distance as you approach, please listen to conscience and turn back, get you and your babies back to that air conditioned car! And That’s all I’m going to say about that! SMH!
