Zydeco Music pioneer, Donna Angelle always knew she wanted to be a musician. Born and raised in Cypress Island, Louisiana, she grew up helping her parents work their land. She says “I went from burning picking peppers to itching picking okra.” “I know the value of hard work and it made me the musician, the woman I am today.”
When Donna started playing Zydeco she was says it was hard for her back in the day, because she was the only woman in the game. She kept on pushing, and in 1998 her breakout hit, “Old Man’s Sweetheart” which pays tribute to Zydeco legend, Boozoo Chavis, helped to make her an International Zydeco Star.
She is currently working on her 7th album. The first new single is called “I’m Just A Country Girl”. You can hear that one and more, Friday with Z1059 at Mojos.
