In the 66-year history of the Grammy Awards, there have only been 32 ties before this year’s awards show.
Another was added to the list with both winners having roots in the Acadiana area. The Lost Bayou Ramblers with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and Buckwheat Zydeco, Jr. and the Legendary Ils Sont Partis Band were both named winners on Sunday evening in the Best Regional Roots Music category for their albums “Live: Orpheum Theater Nola,” and “New Beginnings.”
This is Buckwheat Zydeco Jr.’s first Grammy as the Il Sont Partis Band won their first Grammy Award in 2010 with the original Buckwheat Zydeco, leading the group.
In an interesting twist, the Best Regional Roots Music Category had all six nominees hailing from the Pelican State. Among the other nominees were Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers, the New Breed Brass Band, the New Orleans Nightcrawlers and The Rumble featuring Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr.
