2020 is going down as the year the fun died in Louisiana. The Essence Festival Of Culture scheduled for July 1 -5 in New Orleans, is officially cancelled.
Due to the Covid-19 public health crisis, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has recommended that no large events be held in the city for the rest of 2020.
Essence fully supports this decision and released this statement:” After continued monitoring of the evolving developments in the COVID-19 global pandemic and remaining in close contact and collaboration with our partners in the City of New Orleans and State of Louisiana, we are confirming today that we will no longer move forward with the 2020 ESSENCE Festival of Culture live experience—and look forward to returning to New Orleans in 2021.

Officials also announced the first ever Essence Festival Of Culture: The Virtual Edition. It will be held over the July 4th weekend as a multi-day experience. The Virtual Festival will be a benefit celebration in honor and support of the city of New Orleans, who has partnered with Essence for the past 26 years for this cultural celebration.
