Mustang 107.1 is showing some love to Teets Food Store in Ville Platte, Louisiana. It’s located on West Main street near the edge of Ville Platte City limits. Teet’s is a grocery store that also offers fresh smoked meats, boudin and anything else you expect to find in an Acadiana grocery store.
My mother lives in South Dakota and she loves Louisiana food. She told that when she wants to make a gumbo for her friends, she calls up Teets and orders smoked sausage over the phone.
I responded, “You order sausage from that place in Ville Platte?”
And she said, “Yes, it’s so easy. I just call them up and talk to someone in the meat department.”
“That’s it? No website or Pay Pal or anything.” I said.
Then she answered, “They might have a website. I don’t know. But that’s what I do. I love their smoked sausage! My friends love it, too.”
So then, after consulting with my dad, who lives in Evangeline Parish, he confirmed, that Teet’s has the some of the best smoked sausage. It’s place he likes to go especially when he has to buy it for my sister who lives in Iowa. (The state, not the town outside of Lake Charles.)
I decided to visit Teet’s Food Store to pick a few packages of smoked sausage. The store is brand new. The business has been serving the people of Ville Platte since 1955. The company started in the 1950s when former sharecropper, Lawrence “Teet” Deville and his wife Ruby decided to open a grocery store. The store was next door to the Evangeline Club. Mr. Teet created a recipe for seasoning and smoking meat. Teet’s Food Store still uses that same recipe today. The store moved locations a few times and is now located in a brand-new recently constructed grocery store. Teet’s Grocery has upgraded.
The new store is gigantic and clean. Clean is always important. The employees were nice and looked very happy. The meat department is in the back of the store with several coolers. The coolers contain fresh or frozen smoked meats and specialty meats. It is a grocery store so of course, it has all the normal things you expect to see in a Cajun grocery store. Produce, aisles with canned goods and a wall of cast iron and metal pots.
The sausage was tasty! Although, I really love smoked sausage. It’s definitely a weakness. Smoked sausage is good with everything. We put a few links on the grill. We also stir-fried a few pieces with zucchini. NO wonder both of my parents (who are divorced) love this place. There is a website that offers prices and photos of their products. And, yes, you can order from their website. So if you do not want to drive all the way to Ville Platte, there is a way for you to try some of their smoked meat products.
For this reason, Mustang 1071 is showing some love to Teet’s Food Store at 2144 West Main Street in Ville Platte. Find out more: Teets Food Store
